Moulting is one of the most vulnerable times in a tarantula’s life. It’s a natural process they go through multiple times, yet each moult carries serious risk — and sadly, many keepers know the heartbreak of a moult gone wrong.

During moulting, a tarantula sheds its old exoskeleton and emerges with a fresh new one. But this fresh “skin” is soft and fragile, and any issue with hydration, stress, or improper environment can turn the process fatal.

Why Moults Go Wrong

• Dehydration: Without enough internal moisture, the spider can get stuck mid-moult.
• Low humidity: Dry conditions make it harder for them to slip out of their old shell.
• Stress or disturbance: Vibration, light, or handling can interrupt the delicate process.
